Coach Clinton Bell prepares for his third season at the helm of the Agnes Scott Cross Country program in 2017.

In his second season at Agnes Scott, Bell coached Jialin Chu to a USA South All-Conference nod with a 25:58 mark in the 6k championship race, which was good enough for eighth overall. The Scotties finished fifth in the conference as a team.

Bell is a seasoned coach on the national cross country scene with a multitude of coaching stops before coming to Decatur to lead the Scotties, including a most recent stop at Valdosta State in 2013. From 2007 – 2012, Bell was the recruiting coordinator and head cross country coach at the University of Pittsburgh, while also serving as an assistant for the Panthers’ track program. There, Bell was instrumental in the development of a program that reached as high as 14th in the nation.

For seven years before his stop in Western Pennsylvania, Bell was the assistant for cross country and track at Seton Hall in South Orange, N.J.—also of the Big East Conference.

Bell had exceptional success at both Seton Hall and Pittsburgh, as he recruited three high school national champions, two junior college national champions, 17 high school All-Americans and 26 state champions.

Bell's experience in running goes back over twenty years, as he competed for Seton Hall as a distance runner, including being a member of the Seton Hall medley relay team which set an American record in 1994.  He was also named as an All-American during his time with the Pirates.

He has also been active in the Olympic scene, being a trialist himself in 1996 before coaching former Seton Hall runner Rob Novak to an impressive Olympic trial showing in the 800m.

Bell was coached under the tutelage of running notables Frank Gagliano and Mark Wetmore.

He lives in the Atlanta area with his wife Jill and their two children, Cori and Brandon.
