CANTON, Ga.—Agnes Scott Cross Country finished just three points outside of a podium finish at the Reinhardt Invitational on the first day of competition for the 2017 season.
Senior Faridah Nalunkuuma (Kampala, Uganda) was the top Scottie during the evening, finishing the 4k race in 16:31, which was good enough for 14th overall in the event. Her pace in the shorter distance race puts her a few seconds ahead of her best splits from her junior season.
Juniors Alyssa Willis (Apache Junction, Ariz.) and Ellie Vergura (Atlanta, Ga.) finished with seconds of each other for 28th and 30th respectively at around the 18:30-minute mark. Classmate Isabelle Eiden (Chicago, Ill.) came in another minute behind them to become the fourth Scottie to score on the day, while sophomore Stephanie Sanchez (Eatonton, Ga.) completed ASC's points with a 47th-place showing in 21:46.
NAIA opponent Tennessee Wesleyan took hold of the event title with seven runners finishing inside the top 10. Host Reinhardt came in second with 52 points, while Point University edged out the Scotties 96 to 99 for third place.
Agnes Scott is off for two weeks before heading to the University of North Georgia Invitational on September 16 for an 8:15 start.
