Scotties Improve Times at Berry Invitational

Scotties Improve Times at Berry Invitational

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - For the second time this season, the Agnes Scott cross country team ventured to Berry College to take part in a 6k run, giving them the perfect opportunity to test their progress this season against a field of strong teams, including NCAA Division I and II competition. The team improved significantly on their previous time on the same course, placing 17th out of 19 teams.

All of the Scotties who took part in the race improved upon their previous times on the course. The Scotties were led once again by Faridah Nalunkuuma, who finished in 70th place in a time of 26:57. That time is a 1:40 improvement over her first attempt at the course on September 1.

"We showed improvement across the board today," indicated head coach Clinton Bell, "but I think we could have run even faster. We have a couple weeks until the USA South Conference race to fine tune, but I think we should be in a great position to do well."

Ellie Vergura was the next Scottie to cross the finish line, as she dropped 2:52 off of her previous time on the course, finishing in 27:57. Allyssa Willis was next in 28:45, as she continues her return from injury. Mallory Wilson came across in 31:16 for a 1:21 improvement, followed by the pair of Kai Flores-Wong and Avery Moore, who each dropped 3 minutes off of their previous times, finishing side by side in 31:41 and 31:42 respectively. Isabelle Eiden finished out the scoring for the Scotties, as she dropped 1:05 off of her previous time, finishing in 32:11.

Some performances of note from Scotties who did not score in the meet, but who showed dramatic improvement, were Christina Keyes (35:33, 3:56 improvement), Stephanie Sanchez (36:10, 7:17 improvement) and Barbara Branson (36:47, 2:46 improvement).

The Scotties will take two weeks off before competing in their first-ever conference championship race, as they travel to Tallulah Falls, Ga. to compete in the USA South Conference Championships. The meet will take place on October 29 at noon.
