First Cross Country Meet in the Books for Agnes Scott

DECATUR, Ga. - The Clinton Bell era began on Tuesday, September 1, as the Agnes Scott cross country team began their season by competing in the Emory-Berry Watermelon Race at Boling Park. Seven runners competed for the Scotties, with the top time being recorded by First-Year runner Alyssa Willis, who crossed the finish line in 23:24.04 in the 5k race, good enough for 36th place.  It is the fastest 5k run by an Agnes Scott runner since the program was reinstated a year ago.

"We did some good things out there today for it being our first meet," commented Bell, "and we have a couple weeks off to continue to work on our speed."

As a comparison, at last season's UNG Invitational, which was the only 5k in which the Scotties competed, the average time for the top five finishers for the Scotties was 27:11.  This year's top five, which featured only one returner from last year's squad, averaged 25:01, a two minute, 10 second improvement.

The other runners scoring for the Scotties were Avery Moore (24:51), Faridah Nalunkuuma (25:20), Karolina Klimczak (25:43), and Kelcie Evans (25:38).

The cross country team will return to the course on Saturday, September 19 at the University of North Georgia Invitational, which will take place at 8:30 a.m.
