Scotties Bow Out of USA South Postseason

MONTGOMERY, Ala.—Agnes Scott Volleyball's run in the USA South postseason came to a close following a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Maryville College in the first round on Tuesday evening.

The Scotties end their season at 5-24, but made the conference tournament for the second consecutive season after beating Berea College on the final day of the regular season.

Maryville's staunch offense was tough to control as the Scots came swinging from the very start of the match, rolling to a 25-15 in the first set. Agnes Scott was never able to manage any rhythm against a tall front line, finishing off only 12 kills for the match. Things didn't get any easier in the second set for the Scotties as Maryville went on two separate long runs to take it 25-11 before holding off Agnes Scott 25-19 in the finale.

Brianne Sidner was the points leader on either side with 12.5, while finishing off a match-high eight kills. Sophomore Dejane Hester-Taylor also had a nice night for the Scots with eight kills as well.

Maryville's attack outpaced the Scottie front 36-12 for the match, which led to big leads in the first two sets before closing things out in the third.

Tiara White (Sinton, Texas) had five kills to lead the Scotties, while Bella Kammerer (Mt. Sterling, Ky.) turned in nine kills and nine digs, both team highs. Carmen Ross (Roswell, Ga.) and Kalia Jones (Atlanta, Ga.) combined for four kills on the night.

Maryville moved on to face Huntingdon in the pod final later on Tuesday.
