DANVILLE, Va. - The Agnes Scott College volleyball team wrapped up a long road trip to Virginia with two losses at the hands of two of the top teams in the USA South, falling by identical 3-0 scores to Averett and William Peace.
The Scotties (8-8, 3-5 USA South) were handled easily in the first set of their loss against league-leading Averett (15-6, 7-0 USA South), but fought back to keep the next two sets close, dropping the match 25-7, 25-20, 25-19. Paige Heck led the way for the Scotties with 10 kills, and Haley Payne had 13 digs. Anna Tomkins also reached double digits, logging 11 assists.
In the second match of the day, the Scotties and William Peace (15-5, 6-2 USA South) remained tight in all three sets played, but long runs at the end of all three sets would go in favor of the Pacers, as they took out the Scotties, 25-19, 25-19, and 25-22. No Scottie reached double figures in kills, as the Pacers outblocked the Scotties, 7-1. Bella Kammerer had 14 assists, and Morgan Pearson had 12 digs for the Scotties.
The Scotties will return to action on Wednesday, October 5, as they travel to Maryville College.
