HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.—First-year Damira Augustin (Dacula, Ga.) picked up her first collegiate victory in a head-to-head match in the Scotties 8-1 loss to Millikin University on Monday afternoon.
Playing for the first time in nearly a month due to weather, a short-handed Agnes Scott Tennis squad battled in its loss to the Big Blue. Augustin grabbed the Scotties' first point of the season with a dominant 6-2, 6-3 win at the top singles' flight over Morgan Bettner.
Sophomore Jacy Pippin (Atlanta, Ga.) shook off a tough 6-0 first set to make things interesting in the second set. Pippin was ultimately edged 7-5 in the second to give Danielle Beard a win in the second spot.
Millikin took the third through fifth flights without dropping a game. Augustin and Pippin teamed up in an 8-2 loss at first doubles.
The Scotties (0-2) will have an off day to enjoy Hilton Head before returning to the Shipyard Racquet Club on Wednesday to take on Earlham at 12:30 p.m.
