Scotties Crush Spirits, 9-0

Scotties Crush Spirits, 9-0

DECATUR, Ga. - Agnes Scott won their fifth straight USA South match to close out conference play, downing Salem (6-10, 1-6 USA South) in a dominant performance, as the Scotties (9-5, 5-2 USA South) did not drop a set on the day in racing to a 9-0 win. With the win, the Scotties will enter the USA South Conference Tournament as the #3 seed out of the West Division.

The match also marked Senior Day for the Scotties, and the lone senior on the squad, Isabel Zhao, played her final home match with laser-focus, running away with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Salem's Shannon Sullivan at the No. 6 spot. It is Zhao's second straight USA South win.

"Isabel has been such an important part of our program," commented head coach T.J. Greggs, "and she's the type of player who really makes you enjoy coaching. She always wants to learn, and is never satisfied unless she does her very best. She has been there for the rest of the team all season, and it has been nice seeing her get her chances to play this season."

All of the matches on the day were straightforward affairs, with the Scotties dropping only 15 games in 9 matches, and Olivia Rivas had a "golden match" for the Scotties, winning her doubles, 8-0, and following that up with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Courtney Benson in singles. Also picking up victories for the Scotties were Maddie Hoffman, Lizzy Engsberg, Taylor Lee, Anastasia Bennett and Camille Wilson, as she paired with Hoffman for the 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

Engsberg finishes USA South play with a perfect 6-0 record (she did not play against Wesleyan), and Hoffman boasts a 6-1 record at the top spot for the Scotties in conference play. The Scotties will await word from the USA South Conference office about their opponent in the upcoming tournament, held in LaGrange, Ga. this Thursday through Saturday.
