HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Agnes Scott swept the doubles on the way to a routine, 8-1, win over Greenville College (0-2) today at PTR Spring Tennisfest in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The Scotties (3-3) picked up shutout wins in four of the nine matches played on the day, snapping a three-match losing streak.
In the doubles, the top two teams for the Scotties both downed their Greenville opponents by 8-0 scores. The #3 match was a back-and-forth affair, before Anling Kaplan held serve for a 7-5 lead and the Scotties served out the match when Maddie Hoffman was able to hold serve two games later.
"Anling really stepped up today and played a solid match in doubles," commented head coach T.J. Greggs, "and I am very proud of Maddie (Hoffman) for being such a helpful teammate out there and leading them."
In the singles, Hoffman picked up the win at the top spot in 40 minutes, downing Allison Fennewald, 6-0, 6-0, followed by Lizzy Engsberg clinching the match for the Scotties at the #2 spot, taking down Courtney Blaser without dropping a game. Taylor Lee, Olivia Rivas and Camille Wilson all picked up their second wins of the day, winning at the #3 to #5 spots. Kaplan fell in a lengthy match with Maddie Saffel, 6-4, 6-3, at the #6 position.
The Scotties return to court on Thursday, wrapping up their Spring Break trip, as they take on Arcadia University at the Palmetto Dunes Resort. Match time is scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
