LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.—The season drew to a close on Wednesday for Agnes Scott Women's Soccer after falling on the wrong side of a 3-0 result at Covenant College in the first round of the USA South Tournament. . The Scots scored once before halftime and twice early in the second half to take control of the match.
The No. 3 seed, Covenant, will head up to Winston-Salem to take on Salem College, the second seed in the USA South West Division. Agnes Scott's record finishes at 4-11-2 for the season, matching their win total from a year ago.
Grace Herring (Littleton, Colo.) opened the scoring in the 18th minute when she finished a cross from Addy Cronan (Knoxville, Tenn.), beating Abby Ackerson (Hoover, Ala.) to the right side.
The Lady Scots outshot the Scotties 14-1 in the first half, but could only manage the one score from Herring before intermission.
Covenant was able to break through on offense with more consistency in the second half against a depleted Agnes Scott side. The Scotties' defense was able to hold things together without the game getting out of hand thanks to several stellar saves from Ackerson in between the pipes. The sophomore repeatedly stopped momentum on breakaways for the Lady Scots and finished with a season-high 19 saves for the match.
However, Covenant's persistence led to goals from Cronan and Kyra Duble (Lookout Mountain, Ga.) to make it a three-goal game.
Senior Zoey Perchaluk (Fort Erie, Ont.) took the lone shot on goal for the Scotties on a breakaway opportunity that looked like it might net the Scotties the equalizer near the end of the first half.
