Struble Finalizes First Soccer Recruiting Class

Struble Finalizes First Soccer Recruiting Class

DECATUR, Ga.--Heading into his second season at the helm of the Agnes Scott soccer program, Eric Struble is pleased to welcome seven new Scotties to the fold for the 2018 campaign. Alyssa Bayus (Phoenix, Ariz.), Journey Bradham (Dunwoody, Ga.), Sabina Gentry (Roseland, Va.), Skye Svehlak (Huntsville, Ala.), Val'Dazia Todd (Warner Robins, Ga.), Bethany Velarde (Wassenaar, Netherlands) and Riley Washington (Augusta, Ga.) officially become part of the class of 2022 when fall teams report in two weeks.

The Scotties saw improvement as the season wore on in 2017 after shifting into a completely new scheme under Coach Struble. A tough, winless September turned into a solid stretch of games in October where the Scotties went 4-3 to close out the regular season and earn a spot in the USA South Conference tournament. A short-handed Agnes Scott squad nearly pulled off a result in Montgomery against a higher-seeded Huntingdon side, but the Hawks were able to take the win in the second half with a late strike, 2-1.

The seven-player class expects to continue building on the foundation that was laid throughout the 2017 season.

"I'm incredibly excited about the incoming seven first-years for the soccer program," stated Struble through email. "They're all fantastic soccer players with great playing backgrounds and they all fit the style of play that we're building here at Agnes Scott. More importantly, they represent the energy and personality that makes Agnes Scott so special. I have no doubt that they're all going to have immediate positive impacts at the school, both on and off the field."

Agnes Scott makes its 2018 debut on September 1 at Struble's alma mater, Randolph College (Va.), at 11 a.m.
