LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.—Rookie goalkeeper Abby Ackerson (Hoover, Ala.) and the Agnes Scott defense displayed a stingy demeanor, but Covenant's strike in the 21st minute was all it needed to pull off a 1-0 result in USA South women's soccer action on Wednesday.
Agnes Scott sees its record dip to 0-8-1, while Covenant improves to 5-3 and 1-1 in the conference. The Scotties return home on Saturday to take on Piedmont for the second time in two weeks.
Offense came at a premium for both sides with only six shots on goal between the two. However, Covenant's Kyra Duble (Lookout Mountain, Ga.) found the twine with her third goal of the season in the 21st minute off a feed from Anna Robertson (Augusta, Ga.). Robertson played a through ball that split the heart of the Agnes defense and Duble was able to pass an approaching Ackerson for what ended up as the game-winner.
The Scotties were able to gain more momentum in the offensive third over the final 20 minutes of regulation, catching the Lady Scots sleeping with speed on the outside. However, Agnes was unable to find the back of the net for the fifth time this season.
Ackerson made four stops but also contested 50-50 balls on more than one occasion to prevent Covenant from growing its lead. Caitlynn Croft (LaGrange, Ga.) had the lone shot on frame for the Scotties.
