Tigers Push Past Scotties in Late Stages

SEWANEE, Tenn.—Host Sewanee scored two goals in each half to down Agnes Scott in non-conference women's soccer action on Saturday, 4-1. Sophomore Jasmine Young (Albany, Ga.) scored her first goal of 2017 for the Scotties.

Fresh off their first win of the season against Covenant on Wednesday the Tigers were hungry to get on the scoreboard first against the Scotties. It didn't take long as Sewanee's Dayla LaRocque (Houston, Texas) marched down the field and scored in the second minute of action directly off a corner kick.

The Tigers added another in the 18th minute when LaRocque found Walker Poe (Birmingham, Ala.) through a seam to beat Agnes Scott keeper Iara Moran (Marietta, Ga.).

Sewanee built up a seven-shot advantage by late in the first half when Agnes Scott made good on its first opportunity of the game. Young fired home a shot that bounced off the crossbar and into the front of the net to get the Scotties right back into the game before the halftime whistle.

The game remained tight until the 64th minute when Sewanee's Elizabeth McKnight (Augusta, Ga.) added her first of two second-half goals to put the game out of reach. McKnight added the second of her young career in the 84th minute to ice the action.

Young's goal was Agnes Scott's only shot attempt of the game. Moran made five saves in a complete game effort for the Scotties.

The Scotties (0-5-1) finally return to Decatur for their first home game of 2017 on Wednesday when new USA South member Brevard (3-2) comes to the area.
