Lions Top Scotties, 3-1

DECATUR, Ga. - Continuing a difficult stretch of their season, the Agnes Scott soccer team once again faced off with one of the top teams in the USA South Conference, falling to Piedmont College by a score of 3-1 at home. The Scotties (4-7-1, 2-6-1 USA South) are in the midst of an eight-match swing which sees them play each of the top four teams in the division twice. For Piedmont (8-5-1, 7-2-1 USA South), early goals at the start of each half propelled them to their fourth win in their past five matches.

The Lions utilized their immense depth to keep fresh legs on the field at all times, playing 25 different players in the contest. Tori Gillett scored in the 4th minute of play from the right side off of a deflection, and also fed Cassidy Reich for a goal just 33 seconds into the second half of play to help account for 2/3 of the Lions' scoring on the day. Savannah Castles also headed in a perfect feed from teammate Courtney Bell in the 39th minute to give the Lions a 2-0 lead headed into halftime.

For the Scotties, who were outshot 9-3 in the first half, the second half would be a much more successful stanza, as they had several opportunities to score, including Jasmine Young's second goal of the season, as she struck from the right side with 17 minutes left on the clock.

The Scotties, who currently sit in a tie for 5th place in the division with Huntingdon College, will look to get back on track on Friday as they travel to Maryville for a 6:30 pm EST match against the Scots, who currently hold down fourth place.
