WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Agnes Scott College soccer team showed marked improvement as they fell 2-0 to the Great South Athletic Conference defending champions, Salem College.  The game was tied 76 minutes into the game before the Spirits managed two quick goals in the 76th and 77th minute to edge the Scotties (5-9, 1-2 GSAC).  With the win, the Spirits (14-3, 4-0 GSAC) wrapped up the regular season title for the conference.

As opposed to the earlier contest in the season when the Spirits were able to impose themselves from the beginning against Agnes Scott in a 5-0 win, this game was much more competitive and featured several scoring opportunities for the Scotties, including two shots on goal.  Maddie Shaul and Stephanie Hicks each had a scoring opportunity which was stopped by the goalkeeper, and Helene Somda had several crosses which narrowly missed the mark, as well.

The Spirits, who had been averaging 4 goals per game on the season coming into the contest, were frustrated by the pesky defense of the Scotties, led by Catherine Pratt, Ciara Micacchione, Meklit Tilahun, and Rachel Dodson.  In goal, Ivy MacIntyre registered 10 saves in the contest.

"This was a much better team effort today," indicated head coach Rosemary Davis, "and I believe we are heading in the right direction as the conference tournament approaches."

The Scotties will return to the field on Saturday, November 1 for a night game at Wesleyan College, which begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Wolves soccer complex in Macon, Ga.
