Briana Holland (Austell, Ga.) has been named Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week by the USA South Conference for the two-week period ending Dec. 30.
Holland was the most consistent presence for the Scotties during three non-conference games, including two in three days following the holiday break. Due to injuries and sickness, Holland was pressed into near full-time duty, playing all 40 minutes in a heartbreaking loss to Berry before Christmas while scoring nine points from the point guard spot.
The first-year followed it up with her best performance to date, scoring a career-high 23 points in a home loss to North Park (Ill.). On a day where Agnes Scott struggled to get offense from anywhere else on the floor, Holland played the part of its fearless leader by continuously getting to the hoop to help keep the Scotties in the game until late in the second half.
In the 2018 finale, Holland scored eight and grabbed seven rebounds in a loss to Southern Athletic Association power Rhodes.
Three of Holland's highest performances of the season have come during this three-game stretch, which is something Agnes Scott hopes will continue as the Scotties head into the meat of their conference slate. Holland upped her scoring average by more than three points during the span and is currently fourth on the team in rebounding with 51 this season.
Agnes Scott is back in action on Wednesday when they head up to Covenant for the start of their second-semester conference schedule.
