Maryville Fends Off Scotties 63-49

DECATUR, Ga.—Agnes Scott fought hard for 40 minutes, but fell to USA South West Division power Maryville 63-49 on Friday night at Woodruff Gymnasium.

In in the penultimate game of the season for the Scotties, the made Maryville work hard for everything. The Scots were able to jump out to a 20-10 lead after the first quarter, which was extended to 15 by the end of the first half.

However, Agnes Scott scrapped its way to a positive scoring difference in the second half and repeated forced the Scots to return to their top line. The Scotties crept as close as 10 points in the second half with a chance to get within single digits, but Maryville had enough runs in them to maintain the advantage throughout.

The Scots were led by Madison Maples, who totaled 16 points in 30 minutes of action. Center Rachel Hawn also had a standout game with 12 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and three assists in an efficient 5-for-7 shooting night. The Scots bench finished with nearly a third of their points.

Garis Grant (Charleston, S.C.) was just one rebound short of a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. The Scottie starting lineup had one of its best nights in recent memory with four of the five scoring at least eight points in regulation. Adriana Figueroa (Cypress, Texas) had six points off the bench with a pair of triples knocked down.

The Scotties had a season-low 30 rebounds, while Maryville held an eight-rebound advantage over the home side.

Agnes Scott (3-21, 2-11 USA South) will conclude its season with a Senior Day game against Covenant tomorrow at 2 p.m. Maryville (16-9, 11-3) will await Saturday's results before finding out their seeding in the upcoming USA South tournament.
