MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Agnes Scott basketball put up a strong fight against the top-ranked team in the USA South, but were unable to overcome 11 3-pointers from Maryville, as they fell, 61-44. The Scots (19-3, 11-0 USA South) raced out to a 22 point lead at the half (41-19), before a strong second half saw the Scotties (2-14, 1-9 USA South) outscore the Scots, 25-20.
Garis Grant led all scorers with 19 points, and also pulled down 10 rebounds for another double-double, giving her 11 for the season. She added 2 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal. Jalexis Teemer also had a strong performance, scoring 13 points and registering 4 assists. Natasha Banks had a strong game defensively, as she recorded a career-high 6 steals in the contest, to go along with 3 assists and 4 rebounds.
The Scotties return to action on Saturday as they face off with Covenant (9-11, 3-7 USA South) in an important contest for the Scotties' playoff hopes. The two teams currently sit in 6th and 7th, respectively, in the USA South West Division, with the top 6 teams earning a playoff spot. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
