Second Half Push Leads Scotties Past Hiwassee, 71-65

DECATUR, Ga. - Adriana Figueroa had a career night, and the Agnes Scott College basketball team won their second straight game on Tuesday night in the confines of the Woodruff Athletic Building, downing visiting Hiwassee, 71-65.

The Scotties (6-12) raced out to a 12-3 lead to start the game, but the Lady Tigers would slowly chip away at the lead, eventually overtaking the Scotties for a 29-26 halftime lead.  The fast pace of the game would lead to 13 turnovers for each team in the first stanza.

In the second half, the Scotties would rally after falling behind 46-35 with 12:32 to go in the half, before first year student Figueroa would nail a three-pointer to start a Scottie comeback.  Figueroa, making her first start of the season, took full advantage, leading the Scottie comeback with 13 of her career-high 14 points in the second half of play.  She had been averaging 1.4 points per game on the season.

"Adriana listened so well tonight," beamed head coach Trish Roberts, "she had a great game and really did everything we asked of her tonight."

Shavonne Orr would lead all scorers for the second straight game, bucketing 18 points while hauling in 8 rebounds for the Scotties.  Brittaney Howard would chip in with 15 points, while Figueroa would add 11 rebounds to her stellar performance, besting her season average of 1.0 rebounds per game by 10.  Not to be outdone, Care Bacon, who played the entire second half with 4 fouls, managed a double-double of her own, contributing 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Scotties will return to the court on Saturday, February 21 for their final conference game of the season, as they face off with Salem College at 2:00 p.m.  The game will also be senior day, celebrating the career of Orr, the lone senior on the Scottie roster.

Adriana Figueroa had 14 points and 11 rebounds in her first start of the season.
