DECATUR, Ga. - The Agnes Scott College softball team welcomed Alverno College to Oakhurst Park on Tuesday afternoon, splitting two contests with the Inferno (7-7). The Scotties emerged victorious in Game 1 as Molly Baker pitched a complete game without allowing an earned run in the Scotties 2-1 win in 8 innings. In Game 2, the Inferno bats came alive as they downed the Scotties (4-14) by a score of 6-2.
In Game 1, Baker finished with 5 strikeouts and allowed only 7 hits over 8 innings. At the plate, Jordan Josey had an RBI double to bring home Miranda Moore. In the deciding inning, Alex Garcia scored on a passed ball, narrowly beating out the tag for the win.
In Game 2, the Scotties took a one-run lead into the 5th inning, but Alverno kept true to their mascot namesake as they were on fire for the last three innings of the game, exploding for 10 hits and 6 runs to put the game out of reach. Casey Arnold suffered the loss, going 4.1 innings while allowing 7 hits and 3 runs, to of which were earned. At the plate, Kelsea Hunter and Jordyn Portis both had 2-for-3 performances at the plate, as Hunter scored both of Agnes Scott's runs.
The Scotties will travel to Piedmont College on Saturday, April 2, for a double header against the future USA South Conference foe. The Lions (22-9, 12-2 USA South) currently sit in first place in the Scotties' future conference home.
