Softball Drops Two to Point

VALLEY, Ala. - The Agnes Scott College softball team kicked off their 2016 campaign with a double-header loss to Point University, dropping a close game one, 4-1, before suffering a 9-0 setback in the second game.

In Game One, the Scotties opened up a 1-0 advantage in the third inning, as first-year Jordyn Portis hit a sacrifice fly to bring home first-year Jessica Costero, who singled to start the inning for her first collegiate hit. Eleven first-year players were in action in the game for the Scotties, who return only three players from a season ago.

Point University (5-1) would rebound in the bottom of the fourth inning, plating a run to even the score at 1-1.  In the fifth, they tacked on two more runs, then added an insurance run in the sixth for the final margin.

In Game Two, it was all Point, as the Scotties struggled to make a dent offensively, managing two hits over 5 innings.  Point would plate three runs in the second inning, and six more in the fourth.

Agnes Scott returns to the field tomorrow in the 3n2 Elite Event at Emory University.  They will face off with Huntingdon at 11:00 a.m. in a game which was moved back from 10:00 a.m. due to expected cold temperatures.
