Softball Splits with Salem

The Agnes Scott softball team split a double header with conference rival Salem College this afternoon winning the first game 13-3 and then falling in the second game 13-6. Agnes Scott is now 5-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Game one was highlighted by a bases loaded home run from senior Avi Greene in the fourth inning. The home run put Agnes Scott ahead 7-1. Salem scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth but the Scotties put them away with three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth inning for a final score of 13-3. 

Greene led in RBI's with four. Sophomore Aimee McKibbin had two hits and three runs and senior Melanie Ennis had two hits and two runs.  On the mound Tiffany Cain got the win; in four innings she allowed four hits and three runs and struck out three.  In her first game of the year, Julia Blattner pitched two innings allowing four hits and zero runs.

In game two, Agnes Scott got off to a slower start. By the end of the fourth inning, the Spirits were up 10-4.  Sophomore Aimee McKibbin led off the sixth inning with a home run followed by another home run from sophomore Alex Giusti but that was not enough to take the lead.  Salem scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and Agnes Scott did not score in the seventh ending the game with a final score of 13-6.

First year pitcher Casey Arnold got the loss. In two innings she allowed six hits and six runs.  Julia Blattner pitched three innings,  allowing four hits and six runs and striking out two. Tiffany Cain pitched one inning for the Scotties allowing four hits and one run.

The Scotties will get a short break from competition during spring break and will return to action on March 21 at home against Wesleyan College.
