DECATUR, Ga. - The Labor Day Weekend will be a busy one for Agnes Scott College, as all three of their fall sports teams jump into action to begin the 2016-17 season. This season marks the first for the Scotties in the USA South Athletic Conference.
In cross country, under the tutelage of second-year head coach Clinton Bell, the Scotties travel north to Berry College on Thursday, September 1, as they take part in the Vikings' home invitational to open the season. In their second year of action since a hiatus after the 2007 season, Bell's Scotties will look to numerous new runners to help support returning stars Faridah Nalunkuuma and Allyssa Willis.
In soccer, the Scotties have two matches this week, as head coach Rosemary Davis looks to kick off the season with a win against local rival Oglethorpe University. The teams will face off at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, on the campus of Agnes Scott College. In their last meeting, during the 2014 season, Coach Davis and the Scotties picked up a 1-0 victory on the road against the Stormy Petrels. The Scotties will continue their opening week of play with am 11:00 a.m. matchup against Hollins University on Saturday, September 3.
First-year head coach Bailey Thornton and the Scottie volleyball program also get things underway this week, as they open the season at home on Thursday, September 1, at 7:00 p.m. The Scotties will host Toccoa Falls College, and will follow that up with a tri-match on Saturday featuring the Scotties, Hollins University, and Wesleyan College. The Scotties face off with Hollins at Noon, and will take on the Wolves at 4:00 p.m. Hollins and Wesleyan are set to face each other at 2:00 p.m.
Admission to all home events is free to the public. Live stats will be available for all soccer games at home, and live stats and video will be provided for all home volleyball contests.
