Allison Kern was named the director of athletics at Agnes Scott College, effective August 1, 2018. Kern served as the assistant athletics director for external relations and camps during the 2017-18 academic year.
Kern enters her third year at the college after initially coming to Decatur to take the head coaching job for the women's basketball program.
The department saw many changes during the 2017-18 season that ranged from new branding efforts, both internally and externally, to creating relationships with outside entities who would have an interest in raising the profile of Agnes Scott Athletics. Under her direction, Agnes Scott Athletics successfully ran its first golf tournament, the Agnes Scott Athletics Golf Classic, at the historically renowned East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. Kern also oversaw an uptick in contact with potential stakeholders that led to the creation of a new booster club ahead of the 2018-19 school year, Friends of Scottie Athletics.
Alongside fellow first-year assistant athletic director, Rosemary Davis, Kern also helped create a new experience for Scottie student-athletes through improved game management strategies and leadership development initiatives focused on the whole person.
Kern has spent much of her career in the women's basketball realm after lettering for four years at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio. She served as an assistant at Hiram College (Ohio) and William Smith College (N.Y.) before getting a head coaching gig at Misericordia (Pa.). Kern coached at Misericordia for four seasons before taking the job at Agnes Scott, where she oversaw the development of Garis Grant (Charleston, S.C.), who won Rookie of the Year in the team's first season in the USA South Conference.
She also served as coordinator for game day management at William Smith and the coordinator for athletic facilities at Misericordia.
Kern holds a B.S. in Political Science from John Carroll and earned her certificate in Fund Raising Management from the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).
